Methods of Hair Removal

Article Image When it comes to methods of hair removal you have a number of options. The method that works best for you is probably going to be the one that offers you the least personal hassle and that does not offend your skin in anyway. You should also be able to afford the treatment and be able to make time for it in your busy schedule.

One method that must be discussed is bleaching. Although technically it is more of a hair camouflage method rather than a removal it can be very a low maintenance, pain-free, accident free way to make hair less noticeable. Bleaching is recommended for individuals who have dark hair on the arms, neck or face. Women often require this treatment on their upper lip. This is a very simple procedure that involves applying hydrogen peroxide and bleach to the upper lip which in turn removes the color from the hair so that it is paler and blends in more naturally with the skin.

The most popular and inexpensive method of hair removal in the world is shaving. It is temporary of course because it only cuts the hair off at the skin surface. Contrary to popular my shaving does not make the excess hair grow back in thicker and darker, or make it grow in faster. The reason shaven hair looks thicker is that when the hair shaft is abraded by the razor blade it grows out with a blunt tip instead of a tapered needle like tip that is less noticeable. One of the drawbacks of shaving is that sometimes the skin gets abraded as well.  This is why shaving cream or moisturizer needs to be applied the skin to help the razor glide over the skin.

Physical hair removal entails the removal of the hair by pulling it out of its follicle. It is also a very popular method of hair removal. Like shaving pulling the hair out in this method does not change its color, thickness or texture. However hair the hair seems to grow back slower as it grows beneath the surface of the skin for a while before it is noticed. Also, consistently pulling the hair out of the follicle over time may damage the follicle enough to keep it from producing more hair.

There are several methods of physical hair removal. Many people simply pluck their hair with tweezers. However the hair must be long enough to be grasped with tweezers in the first place for this method of hair removal to work.  Waxing is an even more effective way to remove a lot of hair at once. In this method, warm wax is spread over the skin in the direction of hair growth. The hair is embedded in the wax, which grasps the hair as it cools. The wax is then pulled off in the opposite direction of the hair growth, which pulls them out of the follicles. You can also buy formulas that are made out of cold wax.

There are also many methods of permanent hair removal but they are much more expensive than the simple do it yourself methods described above. These include laser hair removal and electrolysis.
