Ear PiercingEar piercing is a very simple procedure and a doctor, cosmetician or even a clerk in a jewellery store can do it. Usually it involves injecting a needle through the ear using a special ear-piercing gun. Some places do it manually using a needle, which is a very old fashioned way to pierce ears.
Ear piercing is also a lot more tribal looking than it used to be. Some people only opt to get one ear pierce. Another trend in the past decades is to get several piercing up the side of the lobe of the ear. Yet another technique is to pierce mid lobe of the cartilage.
However no matter where you get a body piercing on your person there are some risks that are common to these types of small wounds. The most common problems are infection, allergic reactions, hepatitis B, HIV transmission, and tetanus.
One of the most regrettable consequences of irresponsive body piercing can be Hepatitis B. This is a disease of the liver that causes it to chronically swell and not work properly. HIV is also a risk if you do not take care not to use contaminated needles.
The main way to avoid HIV and Hepatitis B is to get your body piercing done at a professional salon that is very clean and that has sterilised needles. Piercing your own cheek, lip, tongue, eyebrow, naval, tongue or ears is not recommended for anybody.
