Hair ColouringHair colouring products generally fall into four categories: temporary, semipermanent, deposit, and permanent. The semipermant hair color is sometime called demi colour. "Hair lightening," referred to, as "bleaching" is a chemical process involving the disintengration of the natural colour pigment or artificial colour pigments from the hair. This process is central to the application of hair colour in general.
Temporary hair colour is available in various product forms including rinses, shampoos, gels, sprays, and others. This type of hair colour is typically used to enable bright vibrant shades such as red or orange. These colours are more difficult to achieve with permanent or semi-permanent dyes.
Semi-permanent dyes deposit colour on the hair shaft without lightening it. This formula has smaller molecules than those of temporary tinting formulas, and is therefore able to penetrate the hair shaft.
Highlighting and low lighting the hair is also forms of hair colouring. These can also be temporary to permanent methods of adding light or dark streaks to selected strands of hair.
