Fat cells are moved through the use of a vacuum like device that is inserted beneath the skin and into the subcutaneous layers of tissue to remove fat.
The procedure can be done anywhere on the body but it is often done on the belly, thighs and buttocks. Often excess skin is the result after the fat cells have been vacuumed out of the body in which case a procedure like a stomach lift might be used to cut away excess skin.
Liposuction is considered to be major surgery that is done in a professional plastic surgeon’s office or a hospital. Recovery time is usually several weeks and bruising and infection can be the result. Results are also not permanent if the person continues to gain weight after the surgery has been accomplished.
