Vein Treatment

The most common type of vein treatment is called sclerotherapy. This is a treatment where the veins are shrunk by a substance that is injected into them. Sometimes ultrasound is used to visualise the underlying vein so the doctor can deliver the injection into the right spot. In some cases it takes several treatments with injections before this vein treatment succeeds in shrinking the varicose vein completely.

Usually the injection is enough to kill the vein so that it shrivels up and is reabsorbed by the body. However in the case of a really large vein it may have to be removed surgically.

Otherwise vein treatment is strictly cosmetic. Varicose veins or spider veins are hidden with the help of very thick make up. Usually this type of make up comes in a stick form that disguises the tell tale pink or blue colour of prominent or discoloured veins.
