Advances in Breast AugmentationIt’s hard to believe, but it has been well over 100 years since surgeons first used surgical procedures in order to increase the size and reshape the female breast! The earliest known breast augmentation was attempted using a woman’s own benign fat tumour (lipoma) obtained from her back around the year 1895. Since then, all sorts of other synthetic and non-synthetic materials have been used with various success rates. In the early to mid-1900s these materials included glass balls, paraffin, ivory, foam sponges, rubber, wool and even ox cartilage! Most of these materials met with understandably disastrous results and it wasn’t until the early 1960s that Cronin & Gerow, two Texan plastic surgeons, developed the first generation of silicone breast prostheses and a new era was born.

Advances in Breast Reduction & Lifting
Throughout time, large breasts have been considered a strong sign of femininity and fertility. They highlighted a woman’s ability to nurture and were applauded by artists, religious factions and the public alike. However, women with excessively large breasts can find them both aesthetically and physically detrimental. Indeed, as anyone with very large breasts can tell you, there reaches a point when shape changes as well as sag make the breasts less attractive than they could be. Moreover, the extra weight involved is associated with physical ailments such as shoulder, neck and back pain, bad posture, hygiene issues, irritating bra strap marks and in severe cases even breathing difficulties. Large breasts can also quite easily dominate a woman’s appearance and silhouette, making her look unbalanced and disproportionate.

Breast Augmentation
For many women, breast size is an important part of their self-image and Breast Augmentation can dramatically improve the self-esteem of those women unhappy or self-conscious about the size and appearance of their breasts.
Breast Augmentation is indicated both for those women whose breasts have never fully developed as well as those whose breasts have reduced in size after having children. These aside, there are also those women who simply desire a larger breast size.

The Benefits of Breast Reduction SurgeryIt is a bit old fashioned to think that bigger breasts somehow make your life easier. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact one of the most popular surgeries is the breast reduction surgery. Breast reduction is also known as a mammaplasty. Why are breast reductions becoming so popular? First of all if your breasts are too large it is difficult to find clothes to fit. You might end up wearing plus sizes even though the rest of your body is small just to accommodate your large breasts. Another problem is that women with large breasts are often not taken a seriously or perceived as intelligent as women with small breasts. This causes big-breasted women problems with the career. Furthermore the constant objectification of them sexually also causes them big troubles psychologically, especially when it comes to self-esteem.

What Type of Breast Lift is Best?Very often a breast lift is not performed on its own. Another type of breast operation of some type is also usually done at the same time. One of the main types of breast lift can be performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation (also known as a breast enlargement.) A breast enlargement involves the insertion of breast implants beneath the flesh of the breasts or underneath the chest muscles in order to increase the volume of the natural breasts. Breast augmentations are also performed at that same time as a breast lift to make sure that the end result has a nice shape.
