Vaginoplasty SydneyVaginoplasty describes any surgical procedure that has a goal to treat vaginal structural defects. The term vaginoplasty is used to describe any such vaginal surgery including the total construction or reconstruction of the vagina and vaginal area.
Usually the vagina is constructed from other parts of the body of the patient. Parts that may be used include oral mucosa, skin flaps, skin grafts and the labia.
Women aren’t the only people that have a vaginoplasty. Sometimes the operation is used on men going through a sex change. In theist case penile skin and tissue, scrotal skin, intestinal mucosa, and other parts of the human body may be used to surgically sculpt a new vagina.
One special type of vaginoplasty creates a vagina for transsexual patients by removing the muscles in the penis and inverting it into the male body. This type of vaginoplasty is called a penile inversion and it is frequently performed.
