Phlebectomy (Vein Removal) Melbourne
A phlebectomy is also known as vein removal. Specifically it is a procedure where a qualified doctor or plastic surgeon removes varicose veins from the legs. It is not a simple surgery and it requires anaesthesia plus a recovery time of a couple of weeks or more.
There are several types of phlebotomy that are performed nowadays. The most old fashioned of the methods is the surgical excision of the vein using a scalpel. The more modern approach is to use a laser to destroy the vein. Sometimes the laser is used to disable the vein and surgery is still used to extract it from the leg. If the varicose veins are small enough they might be able to be completely removed with the laser.
A phlebotomy can only be used on large veins. This is not an operation that is performed on tiny veins like spider veins.
