Vichy showers get their name from the fact that they originated in spas in Vichy France. It is not Vichy water that is necessarily used in Vichy showers in the rest of the world.
The intent of Vichy showers is to give the person a relaxing massage. The water is heated to body temperature. The result is an increase in circulation and lymphatic flows in the body, which in term aids the body in its natural detoxification processes.
