Optometry Sydney
Optometry is the term used to describe the health care profession dedicated to the care of the eyes. It is the optometrist that prescribes glasses and contact lenses to people with less than perfect eyesight. Optometry is a regulated profession that requires education and certification to practice in most countries in the world.
During an examination your vision is tested for acuity and structures like the cornea and the anterior chamber of the eye are looked at for damage. Your ability to see colour, peripheral vision and ability to see in depth of field might also be measured as part of optometry examination. Various prisms, lenses and eye charts are used during the eye examination to help determine the health of your eyes.
Optometrists also examine, diagnose and medically treat eye diseases, injuries, and disorders of the eye. Some optometrists specialize in work with the elderly, children, or others who need specialised visual devices. Some optometrists specialise in protecting workers eyes from on-the-job strain or injury.
