Labioplasty (labiaplasty or labia reduction or vaginal rejuvenation) PerthA labiaplasty is also known as a labia reduction or vaginal rejuvenation procedure. It refers to a surgery that reduces the folds of skin skin outside the vulva. It may be used to reduce both or side of the labia. Sometimes it is performed for aesthetic or comfort readings. It is also sometimes performed to improve the sensitivity of the clitoris.
Some years ago amputation was the method used to perform a labioplasty. Nowadays the procedure is more sophisticated and is done with a laser. This leaves less mutililation and discolouration of the genital area. The two main procedures that are part of a labioplasty are known as an inferior wedge resection and superior pedicle flap reconstruction.
A labiaplasty is almost always an outpatient procedure performed under local anaesthesia. After surgery, patients may experience some mild discomfort and swelling, which usually disappear completely after one to two weeks. Recovery times range from three days to one or two days after the procedure is completed.
