The only difference nowadays is that there is a lot more plastic packaging for these scrubs, lotions and oils. Back then they may have been mixed up on the spot with a mortar and pestle. In fact very high quality spas still do this today in order to ensure that the body is anointed with only the freshest of ingredients.
